Andrea Rocca was born in Rome and moved to London in 1988, where he pursued his interest in composing electro-acoustic music studying with John White.<\/p>\n
He \u00a0graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies\u00a0with a Master of Music in Ethnomusicology \u00a0in 1997<\/p>\n
As a guitarist with John White\u2019s electronic and object trouv\u00e8\u00a0ensemble he has performed in venues such as the Hayward Gallery, the Musee de l\u2019 Art in Paris and the Knitting Factory in New York.<\/p>\n
He started writing music for feature length films in 1997 with Marco Risi\u2019s L\u2019Ultimo Capodanno (Kaputt Mundi)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n From 2004 to 2010 he composed extensively for UK television, with works for Channel4, BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 5. In 2010 he scored Luigi Lo Cascio\u2019s \u00a0award winning theatre production La Caccia<\/strong> and the contemporary dance production Frames<\/strong> for Toronto based company Zata Omm Dance Projects. In 2014 he collaborated again with Luigi Lo Cascio on a stage production, scoring his free adaptation of Othello<\/strong>, which was shown in two of Italy\u2019s foremost theatres, the Piccolo Strehler in Milan and the Teatro Quirino in Rome.<\/p>\n In 2016 \u00a0he scored\u00a0Il Sole e gli Sguardi<\/strong>, based on Pierpaolo Pasolini\u2019s poetry, which debuted at the Magnolfi Theatre in Prato in May 2016 and toured throughout Italy.<\/p>\n He worked with Luigi Lo Cascio again in 2018, on a contemporary staging of Marlowe\u2019s Tamburlaine<\/strong> at Palermo\u2019s Teatro Biondo.<\/p>\n His work for dance theatre includes \u00a08 Ways from Mara<\/strong> for Zata Omm , premiered in Toronto\u2019s Enwave Theatre\u00a0\u00a0in October 2011,\u00a0Traces<\/strong>, shown at\u00a0the CanAsian International Dance Festival in February 2012 and Crepuscular,<\/strong> which was staged at Dusk Dances in July 2012.<\/p>\n His score for \u00a0Zata Omm\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0Vox:Lumen<\/strong>\u00a0premiered in March 2015. Vox:Lumen was \u00a0the first contemporary dance production\u00a0completely powered by self sustained energy, and\u00a0\u00a0involved a multi-year creative partnership with ground-breaking researchers at York University and interactive designers Aesthetec Studio, the whole show being sustained\u00a0by\u00a0energy created by the dancers, the audience and renewable sources. Andrea\u2019s score\u00a0was based on\u00a0purposely composed orchestrations involving found objects, acoustic instruments, electronica and noises generated by the environment of the performance.<\/p>\n To date his feature film work includes the British feature\u00a0The Hurting, Francesco Martinotti\u2019s\u00a0Branchie<\/a>, Marco Risi\u2019s\u00a0L\u2019Ultimo Capodanno<\/a>\u00a0(Kaputt Mundi)<\/strong> and \u00a0Tre Mogli<\/a>\u00a0(Three Wives)<\/strong>, Gianluca Tavarelli\u2019s\u00a0Break Free<\/a> and the documentary feature Tu Come Mi Vedi?<\/a><\/p>\n
